3 MONTH COURSE - DIRECTING
COURSE DESCRIPTION & OBJECTIVES
What's so different about this film school? We're a film course. A short, sharply focused and very business oriented one. We feel life’s too short to spend over 3 years and (on average) $200K at a regular film school. Only to come out with a short film and of course a lot of debt.
How long is the course? It's an intense 3 month course where you’ll learn the craft and business of filmmaking, while also investing in your future. And for a fraction of the cost of traditional film schools.
How much does this all cost? Generally our course is 8 to 10 times less expensive than most other longer courses.
Where are you located? We are based in Los Angeles, working at various facilities across the city and wherever our script demands it. So be prepared to stay in LA for the duration of the course.
So it's shorter and less expensive, but what makes it different ? Simply put, while you learn your craft you're also making a commercial feature film. At other schools you make shorts. Here you'll make a feature. It's a gamer changer.
Over 3 months you and 6 other film students will learn on the job, directing your own feature film in Los Angeles. One that will have full distribution and the ability to generate income for you all. You will also have a full Hollywood Premiere and leave with a 35mm print of your own.

THE FEATURE FILM & PRODUCTION
How can 7 students all direct a feature film? That's simple. The feature film all 7 students will be directing is one of the most enduring and currently commercial indie film genres, the HORROR FILM ANTHOLOGY. Think TALES FROM THE CRYPT and V/H/S.
How does that work exactly? You will pick and develop a unique story from our writing team to direct. This replicates how directors generally work in this business. This will be your anthology episode, or wraparound linking narrative. You will learn how to interpret the script, develop it, cast and direct it, while also learning the essentials of production. You will learn how to work with skilled experts in production, editorial, scoring, sound design and so on, as you work on each other’s episodes. Each student will be guided in the art of directing from a seasoned course director overseeing the film.
Will there be any traditional classes? Throughout the 3 months students will have a few guest lectures and classes from experienced veterans in the field. But primarily you'll be working on the job. From development, to production, to post production, screening and distribution, you will all see the entire film from start to finish.
DISTRIBUTION & A 35mm PRINT
What happens when the film is finished? The completed film will have a Hollywood Red Carpet Premiere, with the cast, crew and friends in attendance.
Will the film be distributed? Yes. The film will have full distribution (through FILMFEST DISTRIBUTION), incorporating digital streaming, physical media (DVD and Blu-ray) with potential for boutique 35mm programming. You will learn about the business of distribution from our experienced distribution partners.
Will we learn any additional film business? Absolutely. You will learn how to best navigate the film festival circuit from our festival partners and learn how to promote yourself and your film to the press and on social media. Something that's very important when creating a buzz for your film.
Can the film make money? Though no-one can say how much any film can make, all students have a profit share in the final film. Something that can generate income for a long time after. Remember, a feature is far more valuable than a short.
I heard we can get a 35mm print? Yes, you will also have the option to have a 35mm print of your digital film. You can commercially screen this print and keep 100% of the profits from it. Potentially generating even more income. We teach you how best to achieve this.
SUMMARY
So how would you sum up the course? This is a unique and game-changing film course. All students will have profit participation in the distribution of their feature work. As such, you’ll leave after 3 months with an IMDB directing credit, a fully distributed feature film, unique press from this unique venture and the opportunity to earn income from your work.
Plus you'll have the knowledge, skills and contacts needed to make another feature film on your own, have it distributed and generate income for the future.
You will learn the essential skills (including Producing) needed to craft a feature film of quality in today's marketplace. One that will help launch your career in a way no short film ever could.
You will leave the course already a part of the business you want to continue in. You'll have new industry contacts and newly acquired life and business skills that will carry your career to places it never could have before.

ELIGABILITY
Who is eligible for this course? The course is available to all - as long as you're 18 years of age and above. But each 3 month course is limited to only 7 students. So don't delay in signing up.
Do I need previous experience or have already made films? No. Since everyone is learning on the job, there is no need for previous experience. But obviously a general knowledge of the filmmaking process and a passion for films is essential.
